As Seen On Records is excited to announce, the first of what will hopefully be many,
As Seen On Records Presents concerts. As exciting as it is to put on a show and try to get the word out about the label, I'm far
more excited just to see the show itself. We're absolutely thrilled about the line up we've put together. We wanted to put together
an eclectic mix of some of our favorite local bands, and I think you'll agree that we succeeded.
The event in question is being held in the historic Jewel Box Theater in Belltown's Rendezvous. The Jewelbox began it's life in the
1920s as a show peice along Seattle's red carpeted theater row. It has remained open and intact throughout its history in various forms,
including as a speakeasy during prohibition. If you've never been, you should really make a night of it sometime, even if you can't make it
to the show.
The show is being opened by The Painkillers. They are probably best summed up by thier own statement: "If we have to explain,
you wouldn't understand." Their songs really speak for themselves. While firmly rooted in the long Seattle rock 'n roll tradition, their
songs have a bluesy throbbing quality that grips you from the start. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend turning up the volume and
clicking your way over to
The Painkillers' myspace page.
Scenehold is a relatively new band, despite their many collective years in other bands. The diversity of this experience is clearly expressed
in thier music. While the concept of stylistic hybrids creating something genuinely new has become very trite, one finds themselves actually
believing it about Scenehold. Right now, they're working on their first album, which I await with quivering anticipation. As it turns out
they're the only band playing this show that I've ever seen live, so I really should mention that Scenehold puts on a tremendous show.
Headlining the show are The Bugs Of Lightning. They've been playing around the Portland area for sometime now, but as I understand it, this
will be their Seattle debut. I first discovered The Bugs Of Lightning because Nate Barsness (formerly of Insider Spider, currently of Goddam Echo
Mics) played guitar with them for a time during his residence in the Rose City. I've never heard a band of Nate's that I didn't like, and The
Bugs Of Lightning are certainly no exception. Their music is plenty pop-y, but biting and thought provoking as well. It's as if Brian Wilson
was a founding member of the Ramones. Well, if Brian was sober. and DeeDee. and if Johnny was nice. oh nevermind. The Bugs Of Lightning
have a 7" coming out in December and an EP coming out early next year.
If you have yet to pick up on all my subtle hints, COME OUT TO THIS SHOW!!! A good time will be had by all. Good music, good times, and if
you'll forgive my immodesty, good people. I wouldn't lie about this. I don't need your five bucks that badly.
